Alessio graduated with a degree in geology and is currently a researcher at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, Sezione di Pisa. His research primarily focuses on tephrochronology in marine, lacustrine, and continental sediment records. He also specializes in reconstructing the eruptive and magmatic histories of volcanoes by studying both proximal and distal pyroclastic deposits, as well as investigating volcanic instability.
